(September 17, 2008) - In a unanimous vote, Baltimore City’s spending board set aside $10 million to acquire land for the East Baltimore Development Inc.’s (EBDI) 88-acre, $1.8 billion redevelopment project, the Baltimore Business Journal reports.
As part of an agreement with EBDI, the city has agreed to take land for the project and turn it over to the developer for construction.
The mixed-use development is being structured in phases and will include the construction of five life sciences buildings, a community school, retail space and 2,1000 residential units.
To $10 million will be used in EBDI’s second development stage–the redevelopment of vacant lots and 749 unoccupied structures. The city’s Board of Estimates also voted to grant EBDI infrastructure-improvement funds totaling $1.5 million for the project.
