(November 1, 2008) -- Police have confirmed through forensic testing that the gun they recovered earlier this week in a Chicago community is the weapon that was used to kill all three family members of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson.

The bodies of Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, 58, and brother Jason Hudson, 29, were found in the family's home a week ago.

Her nephew, 7-year-old Julian King, was found dead Monday wrapped in plastic in the back of a white SUV that had been sought in the case. The gun police recovered was found near an alley within one block from where Julian was apparently shot. At a news conference, police said they believe Julian was shot inside the vehicle.

Meanwhile, a public memorial service will be held Sunday at Pleasant Gift Memorial Baptist Church in Chicago for the slain victims. Neither Jennifer nor her sister, Julia Hudson -- the mother of the slain boy -- is expected to attend.

The Associated Press reports that funeral services for Hudson’s family members will be held on Monday morning at Apostolic Church of God on Chicago’s South Side. The services will be closed to the public.

As the investigation continues, William Balfour, the estranged husband of Julia, remains in custody after being questioned in the case, according to law enforcement officers.

Balfour, however, has not been charged in the murders; he was cooperating with investigators until he reportedly was asked to take a lie detector test.
