(November 11, 2008) - The man questioned in connection with the deaths of actress Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew will remain in custody for a parole violation.
William Balfour was first detained for questioning on Oct. 24, the day that Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death. Authorities later said they were holding Balfour for a parole violation.
Balfour is the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister, Julia, and the stepfather of 7-year-old Julian King, one of the victims.
Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and brother, Jason Hudson, were found shot to death in their South Side Chicago home. Julian's body was found three days later in an abandoned sport utility vehicle.
CNN reported that Balfour spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was free on parole at the time of the shootings.
At the parole hearing Monday, CNN said a witness testified that she had seen Balfour with a gun.
Another hearing for Balfour was scheduled for Dec. 3.
