Walter Odel Gray was born on Nov. 24, 1935 in Nansemond, Va. to Violettie Johnson and Walter Gray Sr. He departed this life on March 31.
He was educated in the public school system in Chuckatuck, Va. Walter honorably served his country in the United States Army for two tours.
Walter joined the Strawbridge Unted Methodist Church where he held many positions for over 40 years.
Walter married Ruthell Williams. From their union, four daughters were born: Shasta, Zhasta, Ruthella and Orthella.
Walter’s career began at Sparrows Point Ship Yard. After his retirement from Carr Lowery Glass Company, he diligently served as a volunteer at the National Aquarium and the Reginald F. Lewis Museum as a docent.
He leaves to mourn, his father, Walter Gray Sr.; mother Violettie Johnson; daughters Shasta Kornegay, Zhasta Mosley, Ruthella Lievers and Orhtella Butler; two sons-in-laws, Dr. Stewart Butler and pastor Ernest Lievers; four grandchildren, five great grandchildren; brother Haywood Gray of Newport News, Va. and a host of other relatives and friends. Two brothers, Welton and Willis, preceded him in death. Walter also leaves his cherished pet, Goldie, whom he loved and adored.
