(June 6, 2009) - Reverend Aaron Robert Moulden Sr., a retired Baltimore City Public School Department of Transportation employee and lifelong Baltimore City resident, died of cancer Feb. 3 at Sinai Hospital. He was 80.
He was born on March 2, 1928 and raised in Baltimore City where he attended its public schools. He joined the Army at age 18 and trained in Fort McCellan, Ala. He worked as a procurement specialist and was honorably discharged after nearly three years of service, and then returned to Baltimore.
Education was important to Moulden and his family. He loved to learn and shared his wealth of knowledge with friends and family. He attended numerous schools including Cortez Peters Business School, the Community College of Baltimore, Catonsville Community College, the University of Maryland at Baltimore County, and Pennsylvania State University. He worked numerous jobs throughout Baltimore before joining the Baltimore Public School Department of Transportation during the 1960s. He was hired as a school bus driver and rose through the ranks to become supervisor of the transportation department before retiring in 1996 with more than 30 years of service. He earned numerous awards for distinguished and exemplary performance during his years with the Baltimore City Public School System. He also worked as a real estate broker and home improvement contractor.
An ordained minister, Moulden was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Baltimore for over 35 years. He completed theology studies at the Baltimore School of the Bible and Trinity School. He was an active member of the American Association of Christian Counselors and American Counseling Association. He loved helping others. He was vital to the operation of the food pantry at Good Shepherd Baptist Church where he was appointed the position of pantry overseer. In addition, many of his friends and relatives depended on his wisdom and expansive knowledge on matters ranging from home improvement to religion and politics.
Affectionately known as “Pops,” Moulden was preceded in death by his son Aaron Robert Moulden Jr. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nora Irene Moulden, of Blackstone, Va.; one son and five daughters: Dennis Moulden of Baltimore, Deborah Bunn of Crofton, Md., Cheryl Beard of Joppa, Md., Eileen Smith of Baltimore, Bettina Nickens of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Karen Little of Baltimore. He is also survived by 24 grand children; eight great grandchildren; sisters Myrna Smothers, Janice Norton, Harriet Person, Marlene Taylor and a brother, Kenneth Moulden.
