(June 17, 2009) - Lady Bison track star Landria Buckley recently finished her season as one of the fiercest competitors in the nation.
Howard’s track and field team competed last week in the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships, where Buckley advanced past the preliminary round of the 400 meter hurdles. She took second place in the event after finishing in 57.88 seconds, and then qualified for the semi-finals, finishing seventh overall.
Buckley’s also qualified for the 100 meter hurdle semifinals after finishing in fourth place with a time of 13.53 seconds.
On Buckley’s final race of the semi-final round, she ran the 100 meter hurdles and finished with a time of 13.34 seconds which was sixth in her heat and 10th overall. Buckley was only one place short of qualifying for the top round.
“It was nice to finish this season with two qualifiers for NCAAs,” head coach Michael Merritt said. “In the future we will be able to come to nationals with higher goals. I am very proud of everybody this year.”
