(June 28, 2009) - Infomercial star Billy Mays, known for his boisterous presentation of products such as Oxi-Clean, was found dead at his Tampa, Florida home Sunday morning. He was 50.
Mays, 50, was pronounced dead at 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning and an autopsy is expected. Foul play had been ruled out as a cause.
CNN reported that Mays was on a flight Saturday from Philadelphia to Tampa that had a hard landing when its front tire blew out. US Airways officials said no injuries were reported at the time.
However, Mays told a local Tampa TV station that he was struck by an object during the landing.
“All of a sudden as we hit you know it was just the hardest hit, all the things from the ceiling started dropping,” Mays told the station. “It hit me on the head, but I got a hard head.”
Mays appeared in commercial for numerous items, spoofed by a series of commercials for ESPN. He was featured on the Discovery Channel show “Pitchmen.”
