(November 1, 2009) - The hardest working woman in gospel, Vickie Winans, has earned nine Stellar Award nominations for her latest hit CD How I Got Over (Destiny Joy Records). Winans won nominations as Artist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Producer of the Year and Traditional Female Vocalist of the Year. Her “How I Got Over” radio single and CD won nods as Song of the Year, CD of the Year, Urban/ Inspirational Single of the Year and Music Video of the Year. The collection’s final nomination was for Best Recorded Music Packaging.
“I am awed, humbled, and so very grateful,” Winans said in a statement. “I definitely don’t record music to receive awards, but it feels so good to know that you are appreciated for the work that you do for God through song.” Winans tied with producer Donald Lawrence for the most Stellar Award nominations this year.
The 25th annual Stellar Awards ceremony will be held Jan. 16, 2010, at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tenn. Gospel stars Kirk Franklin, Donnie McClurkin and Vickie Winans are scheduled to host the nationally televised ceremony.
The self-managed artist is also a successful businesswoman, who owns a Detroit-area jewelry store, Accents by Vickie Winans. Winans burst on the gospel music scene in 1985 with her signature smash “We Shall Behold Him.” She’s remained one of gospel music’s Top 10 artists with appearances on “NBC Today” and “Oprah.” She has appeared on the cover of {Jet} magazine and has served as celebrity spokesperson for Daimler-Chrysler, Quaker Oats and McDonald’s, to name a few. Other fan- favorites include the No. 1 songs, “Long As I Got King Jesus,” “Shake Yourself Loose” and “The Rainbow.”
