Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Presents $45,000 to Baltimore City Furnace Replacement Program for

Limited-Income Residents
BGE’s long-standing commitment to and support of the communities it serves throughout central Maryland

BALTIMORE, March 21, 2013 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) <>  today announced that it has donated $45,000 to the Baltimore City furnace replacement program for limited-income residents. The program provides emergency support to limited-income customers who are in need of a heating system replacement.

BGE’s former parent company, Constellation Energy, made $1 million available in 2009 to replace older, inefficient heat systems and repair roofs. Since the program began, nearly 85 furnaces have been removed and replaced with new, high-efficiency heating.  BGE’s new contribution to the program will provide funding to help even more customers receive replacement furnaces during the harshest months of the year.

“Each year, BGE strongly supports organizations whose mission is to meet the basic needs of limited-income customers,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “This program helps provide safe, energy-efficient heating solutions for some limited-income residents, who may be facing heating emergencies due to broken, older or inefficient heating equipment. Customers who have old or inefficient heating systems can see higher-than-expected bills because heating and cooling expenses typically account for nearly half of a home’s annual energy use. Our support of this program is an important part of our commitment to the energy needs and safety of all of our customers.”

Since its founding nearly 200 years ago, BGE has played an integral role in working with Maryland communities to address economic development, public safety, civic issues and other initiatives that help enhance our neighborhoods. Through the use of shareholder dollars, BGE supports programs that deliver measurable and sustainable impact in areas of energy efficiency and assistance, education, the environment, economic and community development, emergency response and safety.

BGE’s corporate citizenship aligns with that of its parent company, Exelon Corporation. As part of Exelon’s merger in March 2012, Exelon and its subsidiaries have committed to maintain charitable giving of an average of $7 million per year in Maryland, including BGE’s service area, for the next 10 years.

BGE <> , headquartered in Baltimore, is Maryland’s largest gas and electric utility, delivering power to more than 1.2 million electric customers and more than 655,000 natural gas customers in central Maryland.
