b roll and interview opportunities

WHO:          Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)

WHAT:        The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program <> is providing customers with a convenient way to recycle their old room air conditioners.  BGE will host a two-day room air conditioner recycling drop off event at two locations. Residential customers can receive a $25 reward from the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program <>  for recycling a room air conditioner that is in working (cooling) condition.

In addition to the $25 recycling reward, customers can receive a$25 mail-in rebate for new high-efficiency ENERGY STAR® certified room air conditioning units through the BGE Smart Energy Savers Program <> . Both Sears locations participating in the recycling drop-off will have qualifying models available for purchase during the event.

WHEN:        Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WHERE:      Sears at the Hunt Valley Town Centre
126 Shawan Road
Cockeysville, MD 21030

WHY:          Older room air conditioners use approximately 10 percent more energy than ENERGY STAR certified models increasing energy use and decreasing efficiency.  A new ENERGY STAR certified air conditioner can save approximately $50 in energy costs over the lifetime of the unit.  Recycling old air conditioners prevents them from entering landfills where they can release harmful toxins and greenhouse gases into the environment.

The BGE Smart Energy Savers Program <>  is a suite of programs that enable customers to better manage energy use, leading to more efficient use of electricity and lowering energy bills from where they otherwise would be. Collectively, the programs help contain the cost of energy and improve reliability. The programs also help to reduce peak demand and slow the growth in energy consumption to lessen the need for more power plants. BGE offers energy-saving solutions for renters, homeowners, large and small business customers, nonprofit organizations and institutional customers. More information is available at <> . These programs support the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act.
