Comptroller Kicks of Better With Less Tour

-Franchot to Visit 24 Businesses that are Examples of Efficiency for Govt. -

Annapolis, Md. (April 11, 2011) – In an effort to highlight businesses innovatively operating at lower costs and pass along their lessons of efficiencies to government, Comptroller Peter Franchot will kick off his Better with Less tour this week. The 24-stop trek to businesses and non profit organizations across Maryland is part of his new award program by the same name. The tour begins Wednesday with stops in Worcester and Wicomico counties.

In March, Comptroller Franchot announced the award program and encouraged businesses, civic organizations and citizens to nominate an organization which has achieved economic success while using fewer resources, identified new market opportunities in the current economic climate, used innovation to operate more efficiently or strengthened local communities by providing vital services or opportunities for success. Nearly 100 nominations were received. One winner will be announced in each county and Baltimore City in the coming months.

“During my many visits to small businesses across the state, I’ve seen the genius of the private sector at work. We in government could learn a thing or two about how to operate more efficiently. I look forward to highlighting Maryland’s best and brightest organizations,” said Comptroller Franchot.
