Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Work Reduces Northbound MD 140 to One Through Lane from Rosewood Lane to Owings Mills Boulevard

Utility work scheduled to begin late Friday, Nov. 18, 2011

BALTIMORE, Nov. 17, 2011 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced it will begin utility work along northbound MD 140 (Reisterstown Road), on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at 9:00 p.m. This work is anticipated to take three to six weeks and BGE will need to modify traffic on Reisterstown Road. Northbound MD 140 will be reduced to one through lane from Rosewood Lane to the Reisterstown Road access of Owings Mills Boulevard; however, one of the two left turn lanes to Owings Mills Boulevard will serve as a north bound lane until sufficiently past the work area to resume normal traffic flow. These lane closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week (weather permitting) until the work is complete. All work will be within the confines of the lane closure and BGE will work continuously for 24 hours a day until the repairs are completed.

MD 140 South will have both through lanes open; however motorists traveling on MD 140 South should also plan for extra travel time due to congestion, especially at peak travel hours. BGE is working closely with the State Highway Administration (SHA) and the SHA urges motorists traveling on MD 140 to use caution while traveling through the BGE work zone as it is a 24-hour, seven-day a week operation.

All businesses will remain open during BGE’s work. Motorists traveling on MD 140 North to the Garrison Forest Plaza Shopping Center should turn right onto Rosewood Lane to reach the shopping center. The Owings Mills Shell gas station on MD 140 North at Rosewood Lane will have driveway access from MD 140 North during all business hours.

Pedestrians will be prohibited from walking along MD 140 North between Rosewood Lane and Owings Mills Boulevard. Pedestrians may wish to use sidewalks on MD 140 South or go through the shopping center.

Motorists on MD 140 North traveling between I-695 and destinations north of Owings Mills Boulevard such as Stevenson University - Owings Mills Campus and historic Reisterstown should use I-795 North as an alternative route and use Exit 4 - Owings Mills Boulevard or Exit 7 - Franklin Boulevard.

BGE apologizes for the necessary inconvenience and appreciates travelers patience and cooperation.

While SHA and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, each driver needs to actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert - look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don't follow too closely. Safer Driving. Safer Work Zones. For everyone.
