Baltimore Gas and Electric Company’s New Combined Heat and Power Program Offers Business Customers Up to $2 Million in Incentives
Program Supports EmPOWER Maryland Goal to Reduce Per-Capita Energy Use by 15 Percent by 2015
BALTIMORE, Sept. 4, 2012 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) <http://www.bge.com/Pages/default.aspx> today announced the launch of its BGE Smart Energy Savers Program® <file:///C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\e12682\Local%20Settings\Temporary%20Internet%20Files\Content.Outlook\94IV13EG\bgesmartenergy.com> Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Program, which supports EmPOWER Maryland. Open to all nonresidential BGE electric service customers, including industrial, commercial, government, institutional and nonprofits, the CHP Program offers up to $2 million in incentives for qualifying combined heat and power projects that are commissioned and operational by Dec. 31, 2014.
“The BGE CHP Program is a great way for industrial and commercial businesses to manage their energy costs by more efficiently using the energy in their facilities,” said Bill Wolf, manager of BGE’s industrial and commercial conservation programs. “Combined heat and power is a clean and efficient approach to generating power and heat from a single fuel source. CHP systems provide a portion of a facility’s electrical load and captures waste heat from hot exhaust gases for use in space heating, cooling, domestic hot water, dehumidification and/or process heating.”
Customers who install an onsite CHP system can improve operating efficiency, reduce energy costs and take advantage of incentives that are now available.
How to Participate in the CHP Program
Qualified projects will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process. To download the RFP, access program-related materials and submit a proposal, visit bgesmartenergy.com/business/chp <http://www.bgesmartenergy.com/business/chp> . The deadline for submitting proposals is Dec. 21, 2012.
BGE will host a webinar for CHP project developers, engineering firms and other stakeholders planning to respond to the RFP. Pre-registration is not required.
Date: Sept. 6, 2012
Time: 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
To access to the webinar, go to bgesmartenergy.com/business/chp <file:///C:\Documents%20and%20Settings\e12682\Local%20Settings\Temporary%20Internet%20Files\Content.Outlook\94IV13EG\BGESmartEnergy.com\business\chp> .
“BGE is committed to educating our customers about how combined heat and power works and its many benefits, one of which is saving money on energy costs. If CHP is right for their business, they should participate in the RFP process. The incentives offered by the program significantly reduces the capital costs associated with the installation of the CHP system,” said Wolf.
