Governor to kick off “Jobs and Opportunity” Tour


ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 11, 2012) – TOMORROW at 7:30 a.m., Governor Martin O’Malley will kick off the “Jobs and Opportunity” Tour by delivering a keynote economic development speech at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

With many competitive strengths, Maryland has the ability to lead the way in the Innovation Economy. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce ranks Maryland #1 in the nation for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and among the Top Five states for economic performance. With a highly-skilled and educated workforce, the Milken Institute places Maryland at #1 for human capital capacity, and the Kauffman Foundation ranks Maryland #3 for the state’s ability to win in the New Economy in the 2010 State New Economy Index.

The Governor will discuss efforts to build on Maryland’s competitive advantages, and the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Yesterday, Governor O'Malley celebrated the creation of 100 new jobs for Maryland at the ribbon cutting ceremony for ELTA North America, <http://www.bizjournals.com/baltimore/news/2012/09/10/omalley-to-lead-trade-delegation-to.html> and announced an upcoming trade mission to Israel to expand Maryland’s economic development opportunities abroad and bring jobs back to the State.
