BGE Makes Significant Progress Restoring Service to


Customers Affected by Today’s Dual Storms


BGE expects to have the vast majority of customers restored by early Friday; some scattered outages may extend into Friday 




BALTIMORE (June 13, 2013) – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) today announced that it is nearing the completion of its restoration efforts for the vast majority of customers affected by today’s back-to-back storms. The storm systems brought heavy rain, strong wind and lightning to the company’s central Maryland service area. As of 10 p.m., BGE has restored service to nearly 34,000 of the approximately 39,000 customers affected by the storms. BGE crews will continue to work aggressively throughout the night. The vast majority of customers are expected to be restored by early Friday, with some scattered outages extending into Friday afternoon.


“BGE thanks its customers for taking steps to prepare in advance for today’s storms and for their patience as our crews have been working – and will continue to work – diligently to restore service as safely and quickly as possible,” said Carol Dodson, vice president and chief customer officer, BGE. “We’ve had a challenging weather week in central Maryland, and multiple periods of heavy rain have saturated the ground, causing damage to root structures. Coupled with summer’s full foliage and high wind, whole trees were uprooted and trees and tree limbs fell onto electric delivery equipment, causing outages. Additionally,tree debris can be labor and time intensive to remove before repairs are able to be made to electric equipment. As BGE continues to make progress throughout tonight and tomorrow, we remind customers to remain vigilant about their safety. We ask our customers to treat downed wires as live and dangerous, stay away from the wire and report it to BGE.”


Customers may report power outages from mobile phones and devices through the company’s mobile website at or by calling 877.778.2222.  An enhanced power outage map  is also available through the mobile and full websites, and provides the general location and status of current electric power outages in BGE’s service area. Customers can view affected area(s), the number of customers affected by an outage, estimated time of restoration, if available, and the status of the field crew assigned to repair the issue.


As a reminder, BGE customers who may be elderly, disabled or dependent on electricity for medical or life-sustaining equipment (Customers with Special Needs), should always have alternate arrangements in place should they experience an extended power outage.
