Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Announces the End of Federally-Funded Rebates on Energy Efficient Appliances and Heating and Cooling Equipment

BGE’s Smart Energy Savers Program rebates will continue

BALTIMORE, Nov. 4, 2010 – Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), today, announced that federally-funded rebates, administered by the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA), for energy efficient appliances and heating and cooling systems, will end on Nov.12, 2010. Completed rebate applications for qualifying purchases postmarked on or before this date will be processed. Applications postmarked after Nov. 12, 2010 may be processed based on the availability of remaining funds.

While MEA rebates will end on Nov. 12, 2010, rebates remain available through BGE’s Smart Energy Savers ProgramSM.

The MEA projects it will have exhausted 100 percent of its $5.4 million grant from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) as of Nov. 12, 2010. As a result, the additional rebates for qualifying appliances, HVAC equipment and electric heat pump water heater equipment may no longer be available. Because all applications are processed on a first come, first served basis, customers who submit rebate applications postmarked after Nov. 12, 2010 are not guaranteed the ARRA/MEA rebates.

“BGE worked very closely with MEA to ensure a streamlined process for customers applying for the combined rebates which have been available since April,” said Ruth C. Kiselewich, director of energy efficiency programs for BGE. “To date, more than 16,000 ARRA/MEA rebates have been processed and paid to BGE customers, totaling more than $2.7 million, a true testament to their commitment to energy efficiency. The success of this program also demonstrates BGE’s support of EmPOWER Maryland’s goal of reducing energy consumption 15 percent by 2015. While MEA rebates are ending, customers may still take advantage of rebates for qualifying appliances and HVAC equipment through BGE’s Smart Energy Savers ProgramSM.”

In addition to rebates, BGE customers should consider taking advantage of other BGE incentives intended to reduce energy usage, improve their homes’ comfort and energy efficiency, and improve the environment. These offerings include, but are not limited to, BGE’s Quick Home Energy Check-up, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, PeakRewardsSM, refrigerator and freezer recycling, as well as discounts on compact fluorescent light bulbs and energy efficient light fixtures.
