Baltimore Gas and Electric Company Offers Rare Opportunity to Observe Electric Operations Control Rooms

BGE engineers and support staff closely monitoring electric usage during heat wave

WHO: Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE)

WHAT: BGE Electric System Operations Observation Room

WHEN: Friday, July 22, 2011
12:00 p.m.
1:00 p.m.

WHERE: BGE Electric Operations Building
7309 Windsor Mill Rd.
Baltimore, MD

WHY: Electric usage remains high as heat indexes continue to exceed 100 degrees across BGE’s Central Maryland service area. BGE continues to closely monitor electric usage and is working very closely with the PJM Interconnection, the electric power grid serving more than 54 million customers in Maryland, 12 other states and the District of Columbia. BGE’s electric system distribution control room is where energy usage throughout the utility’s Central Maryland service area is monitored and where restoration activity in the field is tracked and coordinated. The electric system transmission control room is where BGE monitors usage across the electric power grid.

IMPORTANT: Due to the sensitive nature of information in BGE’s control rooms, the Federal Government limits access to the observation area and requires BGE to take very specific action when granting admission. To make this process as smooth as possible, please do the following:

-Provide names of visitors in advance to linda.j.foy@bge.com
-Bring and be prepared to show official Maryland photo identification
-Agree to be photographed for temporary identification badge to be worn while in the building

Because all visitors must be escorted into the control room observation area, visitors should arrive 5 – 10 minutes before tour time in order to be processed. Thank you.
