LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO RECOGNIZE 2011 MARYLAND VETERAN OF THE YEAR AT ANNUAL BANQUET



Crofton, Md. (March 17, 2011) – This Saturday, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown, a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves and the highest ranking elected official to have served a tour of duty in Iraq, will recognize and present a Governor’s Citation to the 2011 Maryland Veteran of the Year at the Joint Veterans Committee of Maryland annual banquet in Crofton.

This year’s honoree is Chief Warrant Officer Five (Retired) Fred L. Shinbur of Hagerstown, who served in the U.S. Army for nearly 36 years, and retired in 2003 with 28 years on active duty. More than 150 people are expected to be in attendance to recognize Mr. Shinbur’s accomplishments and contributions to veterans causes in Maryland. Since retiring, Mr. Shinbur has remained extremely committed to veterans advocacy and has held positions in several veterans organizations here in Maryland. Mr. Shinbur currently serves as the Chairman of the Maryland Veterans Commission.
