LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO JOIN STATE SUPERINTENDENT FOR PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY BACK TO SCHOOL EVENTS



ANNAPOLIS, Md. (August 19, 2011) – MONDAY, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will join Interim State Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bernard J. Sadusky and Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) Superintendent Dr. William Hite, Jr. for two events to celebrate the first day of the new school year in Prince George’s County.

The Lt. Governor, Dr. Sadusky and Dr. Hite will first visit James H. Harrison Elementary School (JHH) in Laurel where they will greet parents, teachers and students as they arrive for the first day of school. They will also meet with new Principal Dr. Wanda Williams and tour school facilities.

After visiting JHH, the Lt. Governor, Dr. Sadusky and Dr.Hite will travel to Parkdale High School in Riverdale, where they will be joined by Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker to greet administrators and tour the student-run bank. The full service bank, which will be run by a group of seniors, was installed this summer as part of the Capital One Student Banking Program. The program is designed to teach students to learn about the key concepts of financial markets and institutions, as well as expand their understanding of finance beyond their personal budgets. Parkdale is the fourth school to house a student-run bank, and the first in Maryland, joining two schools in New York and one in New Jersey.
