On Friday, July 20, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) will attend the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Change of Command Ceremony for the Baltimore District. The Senator will welcome Colonel J. Richard Jordan III to his new posting as Commander of the Baltimore District. The Senator will also thank Col. David E. Anderson whose career has spanned 26 years, including the last three as Commander of the Baltimore District for his exceptional service.
The Baltimore District comprises of 4,400 square miles of territory, 7,000 miles of coastline, and numerous environmentally sensitive islands, all of which fall under the Corp’s purview. The Baltimore District is tasked with the maintenance and construction of military installations, dams’ locks, flood control measures, beach nourishment and environmental protection projects in Maryland, New York, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. It also oversees projects in the Chesapeake Bay, Susquehanna and Potomac watersheds, as well as territory overseas.
