DUNDALK, MD -- U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today joined officials from the National Park Service, Maryland Public Television (MPT), Friends of Fort McHenry and others at Charlesmont Elementary School to unveil a new online educational tool to help educators teach students about the War of 1812.

Teachers from across the nation and world will have access to this innovative, online information through Thinkport. The U.S. Department of Education funds Thinkport, which is a partnership between MPT and Johns Hopkins University Center for Technology in Education (CTE) that incorporates interactive learning tools to better reach and inspire students.

“Thinkport is an exciting project because it demonstrates how students will learn in the future using interactive techniques that will help them understand and experience what the War of 1812 was really like and why it was so important to our nation,” said Senator Cardin. “This new learning tool is funded by the Department of Education as a way to help history come alive for our students.”

Following the official ceremony, Senator Cardin joined 5th grade students in the Charlesmont computer lab to see first-hand how Thinkport uses interactive learning to teach students about the War of 1812.
