CARDIN HOLDS FAITH-BASED SUMMIT FOR BALTIMORE-AREA

RELIGIOUS LEADERS

Focus of Summit Is Jobs & Economic Empowerment

BALTIMORE-- U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD) today sponsored a Faith-based Summit for more than 100 Baltimore area faith-based religious leaders at Morgan State University to discuss job opportunities and economic empowerment.  Participants in the Summit included representatives from the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnership and faith-based liaisons from federal agencies.

“I have organized today’s Roundtable discussion because the leaders of the Baltimore religious community provide a strong voice on behalf of the entire community.  As we continue to recover from this recession, we need to reach out to all parts of our community in a way that will help connect people with jobs,” said Senator Cardin, a member of the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

“We thank Senator Cardin for reaching out to the faith community in forming a strong partnership that will enable the leaders in the faith community to provide greater resources and assistance to our members,” said the Reverend Alvin J. Gwynn Sr., President of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance.

The Summit also included a panel discussion of faith-based liaisons from federal agencies, including: the Small Business Administration, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department for Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Agency for International Development
