LT. GOVERNOR BROWN TO SPEAK AT 2011 WORKPLACE HEALTH AND WELLNESS SYMPOSIUM



LINTHICUM, Md. (June 2, 2011) – TOMORROW, Lt. Governor Anthony G. Brown will speak at the 2011 Workplace Health and Wellness Symposium, hosted by the Injured Workers’ Insurance Fund in coordination with Healthiest Maryland, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, the Chesapeake Region Safety Council and Business Health Services. The symposium is offered free of charge to all Maryland-based businesses and organizations interested in learning and encouraging best practices in employee wellness programs to control healthcare costs and energize a healthier Maryland workforce. Other speakers include Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Secretary Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein and other nationally recognized workplace wellness and healthcare experts.

Lt. Governor Brown leads the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s health care portfolio that has made significant reforms to the state’s health care system. He was appointed by Governor O’Malley as co-chair of the Maryland Health Care Reform Coordinating Council and chair of the Health Quality and Cost Council. In 2010, Brown launched the Healthiest Maryland initiative, which promotes health management practices in the workplace.
