On Jan. 25, radio host and former Md. State Senator Larry Young and Baltimore civil rights activist Marvin “Doc” Cheatham will hold a town hall on the ongoing lawsuit between the Coalition for Equity and Excellence in Maryland Higher Education and the Maryland Higher Education Committee (MHEC). The goal of the meeting is to “wake up everybody” according to Cheatham.
They are asking the Maryland Legislative Black Caucus (MLBC) to introduce legislation in this years’ 2017 Maryland General Assembly for MHEC Program Review so that the duplication of programs at HBCUs can be terminated. The lawsuit contends that by duplicating pre-existing coarse programs at HBCUs traditional White Institutions have harmed the existence of Maryland’s HBCUs.
The town hall will take place at 6:30 p.m. at The Arena Players located at 801 McCulloh St. in Baltimore, Md.
