Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) announced that in celebration of Women’s History Month, BGE is demonstrating its commitment to diversity and cultivating the female leaders of tomorrow. BGE participated in the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women’s “Cool Women, Hot Jobs” event, educating and inspiring young women to explore educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and achieve their dreams.
“We were so excited to be a part of such an inspiring and enlightening event for the young women of the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women,” said Jeannette M. Mills, vice president and chief customer officer for BGE. “It’s so important to get young women excited about STEM and to help them understand career options in this field. We were inspired ourselves by the thoughtfulness, intriguing questions and dedication of the students. BGE participates in several educational events for students of all ages and provides educators throughout central Maryland with practical tools they can use in the classroom to teach children and young adults the importance of STEM education, energy efficiency and safety around natural gas and electric equipment.”
Jobs in STEM fields have been steadily increasing since 2008 and are projected to continue to rise by 17 percent by 2018, nearly double the growth of all other fields. BGE volunteers discussed the need to meet this demand head-on with a new generation of talented, well-educated young women.
