The Bowie State Bulldogs celebrated their 2015 Homecoming with a 17-14 victory over Chowan University on Oct. 10 at Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, Md. The win advanced Bowie to 5-1 overall, 3-0 against the Central Interscholastic Athletic Association(CIAA).
Senior quarterback Trevon Bennett filled in well for graduate quarterback Matthew Goggans, who sat out this game. Bennett tossed both of Bowie State’s touchdowns in the game, including a 14-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Jamal Chappell that gave Bowie State a comfortable lead to start the fourth quarter. Bennett finished 21 of 32 for 152 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
The Chowan Hawks made an attempt at a late comeback, scoring a touchdown to cut the score to 17-14 with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. But Bowie State’s defense held Chowan scoreless the rest of the way to hold on to the nail-biting victory.
Graduate running back Kendall Jefferson led the Bulldogs with 72 rushing yards on 17 carries; junior receiver Nyme Manns led the team with seven catches for 57 yards and a touchdown.
Next – Bowie State will travel to Richmond, Va., to take on more CIAA action with a matchup against Virginia State (4-2 overall, 2-1 CIAA) on Oct. 17.
