The Bowie State University Bulldogs men’s basketball team picked up a victory in a must-win scenario, defeating fellow Central Interscholastic Athletic Association (CIAA) team, Lincoln College, 73-68, on Feb. 6 in Bowie, Md.

It was the second straight victory for the Bulldogs, who improved their overall record to 13-9. The win also pushed Bowie State’s CIAA record to 6-5, better positioning them in the conference standings.

The Bulldogs led Lincoln, 32-29, at halftime, as the result of being forced to mount an early rally after Lincoln built a double digit lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. Once the score was close again, Bowie State maintained a slight lead for most of the remainder of the game.

According to Bowie State Sports Information, the Bulldogs’ stellar free throw shooting made the difference in the game. Bowie State made 90.2 percent of its free throws (37 of 41 free throw attempts made) while Lincoln made just 17 of 26 (65 percent).

Senior forward Andre Jackson led the Bulldogs with 21 points, and sophomore guard Ahmaad Wilson added 20 points. Jackson and Wilson, both Baltimore natives, were the only players to score double digits for Bowie State.

Next: Bowie State will take on No. 4 University of Maryland on Feb. 9 in College Park, Md. The Bulldogs then host Virginia Union on Feb. 10, followed by a road game against Chowan on Feb. 13.
