The Bowie State University football team has fallen into a four-game losing skid after a 47-44 in triple overtime loss to the Virginia State Trojans on Oct. 19 in Ettrick, Va.

Bowie State played tough against Virginia State, going back and forth with scores, fighting tooth and nail, but the Trojans simply had a little more left in the tank to hold off the Bulldogs for the Central Interscholastic Athletic Association (CIAA) win.

Virginia State ultimately put the game away with a 24-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Justin Thorpe to sophomore receiver Jaivon Smallwood in triple OT, which set the final score at 47-44.

Smallwood led the game with eight catches for 131 yards; Thorpe passed for 258 yards and two touchdown passes, but he also did just as much damage running the ball, finishing with 182 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

Bowie State senior quarterback Jared Johnston passed for 2 touchdowns. Junior running back Keith Brown led Bowie with 175 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The Bulldogs fall to 2-5 overall on the season and are winless in the CIAA with an 0-4 conference record.

Bowie State will host Virginia Union University on Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. in Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, Md.

According to Bowie State’s media relations, this game has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Day and anyone wearing pink will be admitted for $5.
