The Bowie State Bulldogs lost their first game of the season, falling 21-14 to Central Connecticut State (CCSU) in a non-conference game on Sept. 19 in New Britain, Conn. 
Bowie State (2-1) fell behind by 14 points early in the second quarter as CCSU scored two rushing touchdowns. But the Bulldogs fought back with two touchdown passes from graduate Matthew Goggans, tying the score at 14 by the end of the third quarter. CCSU retook the lead in the fourth quarter and held Bowie State off for the 21-14 victory.

Goggans finished with 373 passing yards and two touchdown passes, including a 55-yarder to receiver Nyme Manns. Manns finished with 12 catches and 194 receiving yards.

Quarterback Jacob Dolegala did all the scoring for CCSU, finishing with three touchdown runs, including the game winner in the fourth quarter.

Bowie State will see its first Central Interscholastic Athletic Association (CIAA) action of the season on Sept. 26 with a home game against Livingstone College at Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, Md.
