Senior forward Omaah Tayong posted a double-double – 20 points with 14 rebounds – as Coppin State earned a 61-54 victory over University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Jan. 30 at the Coppin State Physical Education Complex in Baltimore, Md.
The win was the second straight for Coppin State, who remained undefeated with a 3-0 record at home against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opponents.
Coppin State (7-11 overall, 4-2 MEAC) earned the win over UMES with stout defense – UMES was held to just 17 points in the first half after scoring only two points in the second quarter.
Tayong was a bully defending the paint, collecting a career-high seven blocks in the game. Her game-high 20 points on nine-of-15 shooting from the field was also career-best.
Senior forward Janelle Lane and junior guard Keena Samuels both added 10 points for Coppin State.
Keyera Eaton scored 17 points with nine rebounds to lead UMES.
Next: Coppin State takes on Morgan State on Feb. 1, and then travels to Orangeburg, S.C., to take on South Carolina State Feb. 6.
