Kirk Cousins threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter as Washington’s NFL team fell to the Arizona Cardinals, 30-20, on Oct. 12 at U of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
Washington kept the score close until receiver Andre Roberts lost a fumble on a kick return in the fourth quarter. The turnover changed the momentum of the game, and set the Cardinals up for an easy field goal.
On Washington’s next possession, Kirk Cousins’ pass–intended for Roberts–was intercepted by safety Rashad Johnson deep in Arizona territory. Although the Cardinals were not able to capitalize on the turnover, Cousins threw another interception on Washington’s very next possession—this time he was picked off by cornerback Jerraud Powers. Again, the Cardinals were unable to capitalize and score.

With under four minutes left to play, Washington’s NFL team seemingly kicked into overdrive, with Cousins completing a 22-yard pass to Roberts, followed by two long gains by tight end Jordan Reed. Receiver Pierre Garcon caught a five-yard touchdown reception to cap off a one minute, 26 second scoring drive to bring Washington within three points.
After Arizona was forced to punt with 35 seconds left to play, Washington’s NFL team had a chance to tie or win the game. However, Cousins’ pass was picked off by Johnson and returned 28 yards for a touchdown to end the game. Cousins completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 354 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions.
In his first game since being sidelined in Week 1 with a shoulder injury, Arizona’s veteran quarterback Carson Palmer connected with receivers Michael Floyd and Larry Fitzgerald for two touchdowns in the first half. He completed 28 of 44 pass attempts for 250 yards.

Arizona’s kicker Chandler Catanzaro made three field goals of 33, 49 and 37 yards in the win. Fitzgerald had a season-high six receptions for 98 yards.
DeSean Jackson caught a 64-yard touchdown pass from Cousins in the second quarter. He led the team with three receptions for 115 yards. Reed—who also hadn’t played since Week 1 due to a hamstring injury—had eight receptions for 92 yards.
Washington’s NFL team will host the Tennessee Titans at FedEx Field on Oct. 19 at 1 p.m.
