Edwards Remembers Officer Chestnut and Detective Gibson on 17th Anniversary of Their Deaths
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) issued the following statement today, the 17thanniversary of the attack in the U.S. Capitol that killed Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson.
“It is with a heavy heart that today we recognize the 17th anniversary of the senseless attack that took the lives of Officer Jacob “JJ” Chestnut and Detective John Gibson. Officer Chestnut, who was a resident of Fort Washington, Maryland, was an 18-year veteran and on the verge of retirement. Their tragic passing continues to resonate with members of the U.S. Capitol community who understand and appreciate the daily service and sacrifice of the Capitol Police on our behalf. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of Officer Chestnut and Detective Gibson as they remember their loved one.”
