Chuck Brown, “godfather” of the city’s go-go sound, will release a three-disc set Sept. 21 on Raw Venture. The album, We Got This, features a live DVD performance and a disc with five new songs that feature collaborations with celebrated soul singers Jill Scott and Ledisi and musician Marcus Miller.

The live album/DVD was recorded at Washington, D.C.’s legendary 9:30 Club, while the studio tracks were produced by Chucky Thompson. The set follows the 2007 release of Brown’s critically acclaimed studio album We’re About The Business, which gave the go-go legend his highest chart and sales debuts to date.

The studio material rolls and grooves from the Ledisi-assisted “Funky Stuff” to the horn drenched “LOVE,” which features Scott and Miller. The live CD/DVD document Brown and his band’s marathon live shows, working their way from Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing” to KRS One’s “Rappaz R. N. Dainja” to Brown’s nationally recognized 1979 hit “Bustin’ Loose.”

Brown, 73, is a guitarist, vocalist and bandleader whose musical intuition has spawned generations of local artists and an intimate local music scene.
