Church choir leaders and music ministers are invited to join the Soul Train Mass Choir on Entertainment Cruise Productions’ eight-day Soul Train Cruise in October along the Pacific Coast from San Diego, Calif. to Mexican coastal ports of call and back.
The promoters said that last year’s cruise was sold out and that this year’s cruise will offer a chance to perform in a gospel concert at sea with Grammy Award nominated R&B legend Jonathan Butler (who is known within the gospel world for his hit songs “Falling in Love with Jesus” and “I Stand On Your Word”) and soul music veteran, Jeffrey Osborne, who is remembered for evergreen hits like “On The Wings of Love” and “You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song).”
The concert and the entire week of Soul Train Cruise activities and performances aboard the MS Westerdam, a Holland America Line Vista class cruise ship, are to be professionally videotaped, according to the organizers. Each cruise passenger is to receive a copy of the souvenir DVD once it’s been edited. Also, BET’s Centric TV will be on board the ship to film segments for a future TV special, according to Entertainment Cruise Productions.
“This year’s line-up of artists reads like a who’s who in classic soul with performances by Earth Wind & Fire, Gladys Knight, Jeffrey Osborne, The Whispers, Freddie Jackson, The Ohio Players, Jennifer Holliday, Jonathan Butler, Con Funk Shun, Regina Belle, The Bar-Kays, Dazz Band, Regina Belle, Mary Jane Girls, The Original Lakeside, A Taste of Honey featuring Janice Marie, DW3, comedian Alonzo Bodden and DJ extraordinaire Biz Markie,” the production company’s news release about the event said.
The Soul Train Cruise is scheduled to depart San Diego, Calif. Oct. 5 and visit Bahia Magdalena, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas before returning to San Diego on Oct. 12.
