Gospel veteran Bryan Wilson will act and perform in Evangel Cathedral’s annual Broadway-styled Christmas production, “Christmas Celebration 2010.” The production features a cast of 200, live camels, laser lights, and performances from gospel superstars Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin and Marvin Sapp.

“I’ve been wanting to get back into acting,” said Wilson, who once performed in a production of Purlie Victorious and a gospel stage play with Dorothy Norwood, in a written statement. “So, this musical has given me an opportunity to refresh those skills and the director, Minister Rhonda Belt, has become one of my mentors.”

Although he’s best known for recording “His Eye Is OnThe Sparrow” with the Mississippi Children’s Choir in 1994 at 12, Wilson’s latest radio single, “Everybody Clap Your Hands,” recently peaked at No. 38 on the Nielsen BDS Top Gospel Songs survey. As he prepares to release his next CD in 2011, Wilson now has a smooth jazzy rendition of the hymn “I Need Thee.”

Similarly, gospel singing sensation Yolanda Adams has been busy creating new music, hosting a radio show and planning a women’s clothing line. Fellow performers Donnie McClurkin and Marvin Sapp, whose wife Malinda died after battling cancer in September, will also take time out of their hectic traveling and preaching schedules to attend the popular Christmas concert.
