The Howard University Bison sit just one game under .500 at 6-7 overall on the season after going 1-2 so far in the Gotham Basketball Classic, scheduled Dec. 13-23.
The Bison fell to Pepperdine, 53-45 in their most recent Gotham action on Dec. 17. Howard did beat Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, 57-47, on Dec. 15 but lost, 54-41, to Richmond to open the Gotham Classic schedule on Dec. 13.
Howard trailed Pepperdine, 28-23 at the halftime break — sophomore guard James Daniels III was the only Bison player to get going offensively early in the game as he scored 10 first half points. But Pepperdine’s Stacy Davis was too much to handle for Howard, scoring 12 first-half points before finishing the game with a team-high 18 points with 11 rebounds. Amadi Udenyi got hot in the second half and ended up with 16 points for Pepperdine. Daniels finished with a game-high 22 points for Howard despite the loss; sophomore guard James Carlton followed with 13 points.
Next: Howard will finish the Gotham Classic schedule on Dec. 23 by taking on South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., and then heads to New York, N.Y., to challenge Fordham University on Dec. 28.
