The Howard University Bison remained winless after suffering a 49-10 loss to the South Carolina State University (SCSU) Bulldogs on Oct. 17 in Orangeburg, S.C.
The loss dropped Howard’s overall record to 0-6, and 0-4 against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
The Bison stood no chance against the Bulldogs, who dominated every phase of the game. SCSU (3-3 overall, 2-1 MEAC) scored against Howard on offense, defense and special teams, including two interceptions returned for a touchdown and punt returned for a score. The Bulldogs led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and piled on 28 more points in the commanding victory.
Bison junior quarterback Jamie Cunningham completed just five of 11 pass attempts for 32 yards before leaving the game early. His replacement, sophomore Kalen Johnson, wasn’t any better, completing just seven of 14 passes for 45 yards.
Bulldogs freshman quarterback Caleb York had a fine performance, completing 13 of 22 attempts for 208 yards and two touchdowns.
Next: Howard heads to Greensboro, N.C. to challenge the MEAC’s top ranked team, North Carolina A&T (5-1 overall, 3-0 MEAC) on Oct. 24.
