Senior quarterback Tre Roberson tossed four touchdown passes and senior running back Marshaun Coprich ran for three scores as Illinois State routed the Morgan State Bears, 67-14, on Sept. 12 in Normal, Ill. The loss for Morgan State dropped its record to 0-2 on the season.

Illinois State started off slow offensively against Morgan State’s defense. The Bears held them to just two field goals after Illinois State’s first two series. But Morgan State wasn’t able to produce anything offensively, and Roberson and Coprich both eventually began to warm up, scoring touchdowns to push the lead to 22-0.

Morgan State scored at the start of the second quarter with a short touchdown run by sophomore receiver Orlando Johnson that cut the lead to 22-7. But Illinois State then piled on touchdowns to take a 50-point lead before the Bears were able to reach the end zone again.

Senior quarterback Seth Higgins tossed a 17-yard touchdown pass to freshman receiver Brian Gentry in the third quarter for Morgan State. Higgins finished with four of nine passes for 46 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Orlando Johnson had 13 carries for 39 yards. and junior running back Lamont Brown III added 58 yards on nine carries for the Bears.

Roberson led Illinois State with nine of 13 passes completed for 259 passing yards and four scores; Coprich ran 20 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns.

Next – Morgan State will face more non-conference action with a Sept. 19 matchup with Virginia-Lynchburg College.
