Singer John Legend can now add the title of “television producer” to his sprawling résumé.

According to Deadline.com, the musician recently inked a deal with NBC to produce a show called “Mixed Blessings,” scheduled to debut next year. Former NBC exec Teri Weinberg will also produce the show, which will be penned by “Medium” writer Rob Pearlstein.

Legend and Mike Jackson are executive producing the show through their Get Lifted Film Company.

The single-camera sitcom is loosely based on Jackson’s childhood growing up in the Philadelphia suburbs. The show will follow the culture clash of a street-bred hip-hop artist who suddenly discovers that he has a son who is being raised by a White suburban family.

The new project marks the first TV deal for Legend and Jackson’s Get Lifted company, and the second NBC show this season with an A-list celebrity attached.

According to Perez Hilton.com, the show sparked the interest of a number of networks before being picked up by NBC.

The past year has been a productive one for Legend. According to TheBoombox.com, In July, he launched the GIVE Education campaign in New York with the nonprofit P&G and Communities in Schools to increase awareness and fight the student dropout crisis in the U.S.
