Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige are the latest stars set to join the world of Oz. NBC has just signed two big names to its live adaptation of the The Wiz.

“Thrilled to announce that @MaryJBlige and @iamqueenlatifah have been added to #TheWizLive!,” NBC posted on its Twitter account July 28.

Latifah is set to play the eponymous Wiz, who rules the Emerald City; and Blige will play the Wicked Witch of the West. They join previously named cast member Stephanie Mills – a member of the musical’s original Broadway cast – who’s playing Auntie Em.

Both entertainers are musical heavyweights: Latifah, a pioneering female rapper and jazz singer, received an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in 2002’s big screen musical Chicago; she also appeared in 2007’s Hairspray. Blige, known as the queen of hip-hop/soul, has garnered nine Grammy awards, and featured in the movie musical Rock of Ages in addition to other film roles.

The Wiz, a popular Broadway adaptation of the beloved book-turned-film The Wizard of Oz, is the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. It, in turn, spawned a feature film and Black cult classic starring Diana Ross and Michael Jackson.

NBC’s three-hour live show is executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the men behind previous NBC telecasts, The Sound of Music Live! (2013) and Peter Pan Live! (2014).

The Wiz Live! Will be directed by Kenny Leon and will feature new written material from Harvey Fierstein (Kinky Boots, Newsies.) The production will also feature a collaboration with Cirque du Soleil, whose acrobats will depict characters, such as the flying monkeys.
