Dear Editor,

In 1776, Thomas Jefferson declared of King George, “He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.” In 2019, plastics have overrun our seas, oil tankers have devastated our coasts, and forest fires have burnt our towns. Today, in place of one evil tyrant, we need to confront our own apathy, selfishness, and greed. The 13 colonies in the North and South had to compromise to ensure the survival independent United States of America. Today, we must compromise. We cannot continue to consume fossil fuels at the same rate, or we will all be extinct. Today’s biggest threat to our Life, Liberty, and Happiness is a world where there is no food to eat, water to drink, or air to breathe. This year, there is a bill before Congress and supported by the Citizens Climate Lobby, a global organization with over 100,000 members in 54 countries. I urge all of you to mobilize, call, and write your reps showing your support of HR763. This bill promises to authorize programs to provide incentives to choose alternative energy sources and to create 2.1 million new jobs. Act now, before it’s too late.
