Franchot to Present Silver Hammer Award in Calvert and Visit Charlotte Hall Veterans Home
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will present the 2016 Silver Hammer Award for Calvert County to Mutual Elementary School in Port Republic on Thursday. The school, built in 1975, was nominated because it earned a superior 96 percent rating on its most recent state inspection. Inspectors noted “a high level of cleanliness, organization and solid maintenance servicing” at the school.
The Silver Hammer Award was established in 2010 in recognition of schools that demonstrate sound fiscal management and commitment to well-maintained buildings. Comptroller Franchot visits schools throughout the state as part of his role as a member of the Board of Public Works, which approves public school construction funding.
Later, on the eve of Veterans Day, the Comptroller will pay a visit to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home with Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary George W. Owings III. Both men will tour the facility and talk with veterans, thanking them for their service to our nation.
