Franchot to Speak to Clarkburg Chamber, Tour Two Sites in Howard County
Comptroller to See Ongoing Construction at Community College and Merriweather Post
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will give members of the Clarksburg Chamber of Commerce an update on Maryland’s economy and his efforts to combat tax fraud and identity theft during the recently ended tax-filing season at a Wednesday breakfast meeting at GrillMarx in Clarksburg.
The Comptroller then will travel to Howard County, where he will tour Howard Community College (HCC) with President Dr. Kathleen Hetherington and other college officials. Mr. Franchot will see the Health Sciences Building and view the construction site for the Science, Engineering and Technology Building, which is slated to open in 2017. HCC has 14,604 credit and 15,366 noncredit continuing education students.
Afterwards, the Comptroller will visit Merriweather Post Pavilion, a nationally-rated concert and large event outdoor amphitheater with Ian Kennedy, director of the Downtown Columbia Arts and Culture Commission, and other board members. The Comptroller will view the new stage house, back stage building and new concessions. Merriweather Post Pavilion, which has been open since 1967, was designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry.
