Junior quarterback Eli Staley tossed three touchdowns as the Morgan State University Bears celebrated their 150th Homecoming with a 48-28 blowout win over the Savannah State University Tigers on Oct. 14.

The victory marked the first win of the season for Morgan State (1-5 overall, 1-2 MEAC).

The Bears easily had their best offensive game of the season. After struggling in the first five games of the year, junior transfer quarterback Eli Staley was on fire against the Tigers.

Stanley’s first touchdown pass came in the first quarter on a 21-yard strike to senior receiver Amonta Poteat, and he later tossed a 60-yard touchdown pass to sophomore receiver Manassah Bailey. Morgan State built a decisive 42-7 lead by halftime and cruised to victory in the second half.

Staley finished with 220 yards on 14-of-21 pass attempts, his most efficient game of the season. Morgan State had two different backs run for more than 100 yards: senior Eric Harrell ran for 114 yards and a touchdown, while fellow senior Herb Walker Jr. added 109 rushing yards and a touchdown.

Next: Morgan State travels to Washington, D.C. on Oct. 21 to face Howard University.
