The Washington Nationals struggled to score runs against Giants’ starting pitcher Jake Peavy, losing 3-2 to San Francisco in the opening game of the National League divisional round playoffs on Oct. 3 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The Giants lead the Nationals, 1-0, in the best of five series.

Peavy was on fire, allowing a mere two hits and zero runs as he lasted into the sixth inning.

Washington got two runs off the Giants’ bullpen – outfielder Bryce Harper and second baseman Asdrúbal Cabrera came up with an RBI each in the seventh inning. But Washington failed to come up with any more scores through the final two innings.

Stephen Strasburg got the start at pitcher for the Nationals, but gave up eight hits with two earned runs through five innings pitched.

Washington will host the Giants at Nationals Park again in Game Two on Oct. 4. Game starts at 5:37 p.m. Eastern Time.
