LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Maryland say a police officer was critically wounded in a shooting near a police station, and two suspects are in custody.

Assistant Fire Chief Alan Doubleday says another person also was shot Sunday and was taken by ambulance to Prince George’s Hospital Center in stable condition. He says police took the wounded officer to the same hospital.

Officials say the shooting occurred at a community center next to the Landover police station in Prince George’s County, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Police had initially posted a message on Twitter asking residents to avoid the area and to stay inside because of a possible “active shooter” situation. Police later said they don’t believe there are any other suspects.

Other details weren’t immediately released, and the suspects weren’t immediately identified.
