‘Jazz Appreciation Month’

Hello everyone, how are you? Well I hope. I have been pretty busy with my husband after he had knee replacement last week. It is going to be a long struggle, but we will be okay. I appreciate all my friends, followers, readers, friends and musicians who have sent their best wishes and prayers to me and my husband, Shorty. I will keep you informed on his progress as he goes thru theory.

Joe Chambers renowned vibes musician will perform at An Die Musik, 409 N. Charles St. The concert is April 26, at 8:00 P.M. and 9:30 P.M., with Allyn Johnson on piano and Herman Burney on bass.

This week I will be talking to you about all the music events that is going on, well more than usual, because this month is consider “Jazz Appreciation Month”. Since this is the last week for of the Jazz month, I have a lot to tell you, so much so, that it will run over into the month of May. So keep up.

Joe Chambers is coming to town this weekend. He is a recognized performer and composer whose works have been performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Chambers has recorded more than 500 albums and CDs. He has performed and recorded with Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Sonny Rollins, Herbie Hancock and Dizzy Gillespie just to name a few. You will be getting a double whammy with Baltimore’s own Dennis Chambers will also be in town performing at the An Die Musik, 409 N. Charles Street in Baltimore on Friday, April 26 for 2 shows, 8 & 9:30 p.m. The Joe Chambers’ Quartet will consist of Joe Chambers on vibes, Allyn Johnson on piano, Herman Burney on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums and percussion.

Baltimore’s own renowned world known drummer/percussionist Dennis Chambers will be performing at An Die Musik, 409 N. Charles Street on Friday, April 26th, 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. with Allyn Johnson on piano and Herman Burney on bass.

Phil Butts Big Band will be performing at the Avenue Bakery on Pennsylvania Avenue and Baker Street in the court yard on Saturday, May 4 from 4-8 p.m. Dr. Phil Butts Band consist of 17 pieces will perform jazz from the old days on the “Avenue” when the Royal Theater was still jumping. It is free and open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy.

Every Thursday, the Corinthian Lounge located 7107 Windsor Mill Road in Windsor Mill, Maryland with Carlos Hutchins host “Live Jazz” shows from 5-8 p.m. free admission with dinner and drink specials.

The Avenue Bakery is opening their Music Series with Phil Butts Big Band on Saturday, May 4th from 4-8 p.m. in the Avenue Bakery Court Yard on Pennsylvania Avenue and Baker Street. Their events are open to the public and free. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the music.

Lexington Market is celebrating Jazz Month by featuring the Jazz Caravan Band on Saturday, April 27th from 12 noon to 2 p.m. the concerts are free and open to the public.

The Howard County MSU Alumni’s is hosting a spring “Day Party” Caribbean Style Cabaret on Saturday, April 27 from 12 noon to 4 p.m. at the Kahler Hall in Columbia, Maryland. It is a “Spring Get Out-of the House” party. It is BYOB, but they will feed you, free set-ups and vendors on site. For more information, email Walt Carr at wcar8@verizon.net.

Doresa Harvey, radio personality is back on the air. She is now with Magic 95.9 FM, from noon to 3:00 P.M. Harvey is known as the “Gospel Queen” and she is also on Praise 106.1 FM.. Check her out!
