There weren’t many times this season in which the Washington Nationals had more wins in a week than losses. But that was the case this week as they capped a three-win sweep against the Phillies on Aug. 11 with a 6-0 win, and then won two of a three-game series on Aug.13-15 against the San Francisco Giants.

(Aug. 13-15) Nats Win Series over Giants The Nats’ took Game One with a 4-2 victory, followed by a 6-5 win in the Game Two of the series, thanks to hot pitching from their starting rotation. Gio Gonzalez went runless in four innings of the first game and Jordan Zimmermann gave up just one run in six innings pitched in the second game; Rafael Soriano closed out both game for back-to-back saves. The Nats wins ended in Game Three of the series with a 3-2 loss.

(Aug. 16-17) One Loss, One Win against Braves The Nats suffered a 3-2 loss in Game One of their series against the Atlanta Braves. But they bounced right back to beat the Braves 8-7, in Game Two. Stephen Strasburg got the start but only pitched one inning and gave up two runs before he was sat. It ultimately took the Nationals eight pitchers out of the bullpen to win the game. Fortunately they had plenty of offense, recording 17 hits in the game. Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche both had homeruns.

Nats’ Player of the Week: Ryan Zimmerman
Zimmerman had six hits, two runs, two RBI and one home run this week.
