Comptroller Notes Role of Farmers Markets in Montgomery, Prince George’s and Baltimore
– Comptroller to Join Shoppers in Trips to Local Farmers Markets –
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
Local and state officials
WHAT: On the final day of National Farmers Market Week, Comptroller Franchot will visit two farmers markets Saturday, and stop by another market on Sunday. His first stop will be at the Downtown Silver Spring FRESHFARM Market, where the Comptroller will find goat milk cheeses, fresh summer fruits and vegetables, honey, eggs, meat, pies, preserves, salsas, cut flowers, breads and pastries. The mission of FRESHFARM Markets, which operates 13 farmers’ markets in the Chesapeake Bay region, is to educate the public about food, the environment and vital economic opportunities for local farmers.
The Comptroller then will head to the Cheverly Community Market, where neighbors and friends meet to buy food grown close to home and also to enjoy breakfast, live music, local artists and craftspeople. The market offers vegetables, fruits, meats, fish, bread and wine.
On Sunday, the Comptroller will stop by the JFX Farmers Market and Bazaar in Baltimore –the largest producers-only market where shoppers can buy a vast quantity of crisp fruits and vegetables, poultry, seafood, beef, pork, lamb, bison, goat, rabbit, fresh baked goods, flavorful herbs and organically-raised and produced milk, yogurt, butter, eggs and cheese. The bazaar offers crafts and collectibles.
