SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — South Burlington High School students will raise a Black Lives Matter flag to fly during February in honor of Black History Month.
Friday’s flag rising comes the same day as Montpelier High School marks one year since it raised its own Black Lives Matter Flag. Montpelier High School was the first in the nation to publicly fly the flag in 2018, and other schools around the state followed suit.

The South Burlington school board unanimously passed a motion supporting the raising of the flag beginning this February and every February thereafter.
During this past year, Montpelier and the school’s Racial Justice Alliance have led a comprehensive effort to support racial harmony in education across the curriculum and through student activism.
